Basic tasks of a Forensic scientist

 

There are some basic and common tasks that a Forensic scientist needs to execute during the time of Crime Scene Investigation. The role that they play is very crucial because their findings and the way of investigation can provide a lead for the case and act as a guide for the cops to link a suspect to a crime. 

 

Gathering Evidence

A Forensic scientist that visits the crime scene search and gathers different types of evidence, for example, fingerprints, footprints, tire marks, blood spatter, hair, fibers and fire debris. A Forensic scientist work in their particular role, for example, a fingerprint analyst examines and photograph the print to preserve it. Other might collect and examine the bloodstains from the floor or windows.

 

Analyzing Evidence 

Forensic scientist analyzes the evidence which was collected from the crime scene in their respective division. For example, Forensic scientist examines drugs, alcohol and other chemical-related evidence in the Toxicology Department. A serologist might be examining the victim's body blood for the presence of any drug or toxins. A Firearm examiner might compare the fired bullets with the bullet from the suspected gun using the comparison microscope.

 

Collaboration

To solve the crime, teamwork from a divergent group of scientists and experts is required. Forensic scientists work with their fellow law enforcement professionals, police officers, detectives, prosecutors, defence attorneys and sometimes other forensic science professionals. Sometimes, Forensic scientists need to consult the case findings with different departments like NIA, ED, CBI, CBN and other local departments. They keep their fellow investigators updated about their findings.

 

Reporting Findings

After the completion of the findings, analysis and discussion with their fellow investigators, Forensic scientist explains in detailed report form. These final reports will be used as a permanent case file of Forensic expert. These reports might also review by prosecutors, defence attorney to introduce the findings in the court.
